NEW URBAN FARMING AND COMMUNITY GARDEN GRANTS ARE HERE MDA is excited to launch a new grant program that supports urban farms and community gardens. Whether you're a startup or looking to expand, our grants can help you pay for improvements such as refrigerated or dry storage, wash-and-pack stations, fencing, low tunnels, conservation practices, rooftop gardens, controlled environments, and more. Submit your application by July 24.

UMES AG SHOWCASE AWAITS YOU The 6th annual University of MD Eastern Shore Extension (UMES) Ag Showcase returns to Princess Anne on August 12. It offers the latest research and production techniques for alternative crops. Field trials of corn and soybean varieties using smart farming technology, including drones, will also be discussed. Other topics include precision agriculture tools and equipment, soil health, and more. This event offers 4 MD Nutrient Management CEUs and 8 Pesticide CEUs in various categories.

MONTGOMERY WINS MD ENVIROTHON A team of students from Montgomery County has won the Maryland Envirothon with a score of 417.5 points. They now advance to the international competition, which will be held later this summer at Mississippi State University. Sixteen counties competed in the Maryland event, with Harford placing second (412.5), St. Mary's third (393), Charles fourth (371.75), and Carroll fifth (361.5). Congratulations to all the talented competitors!
