Join Kevin Atticks, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), straight from Annapolis, in a discussion of the roles and responsibilities of the MDA. The MDA oversees Maryland’s largest commercial industry, agriculture, which employs about 350,000 people and generates $8.25 billion annually. Agriculture also accounts for around 2 million acres in the State, with roughly 12,550 farms; 81% of these farms are family owned.
Maryland has over 16,000 equine facilities and almost 800 licensed stables accounting for more than $2.9 billion of the State’s economy. Maryland Horse Industry Board Chair Shelia Curry and Field Marketing Specialist Anne Litz will explain how the uniqueness of the Maryland Horse Industry Board has led to the success of this section of the industry.
