YOU ASKED, WE DELIVERED MDA and the University of Maryland Extension are pleased to offer an online Farmer Training and Certification (FTC) workshop for farmers who want to become certified to write their own nutrient management plans. IT PAYS TO PLANT EARLY It's planting season for farmers who signed up for our grants to plant cover crops in their fields this fall. Farmers who aerial seed cover crops into standing corn on or before September 10 qualify for a $10/acre incentive payment. Click the link for a full rundown of all planting deadlines and incentives.

MARYLAND PERMANENTLY PRESERVES 14 WORKING FARMS The Maryland Board of Public Works approved 14 new Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation easements at its August 2 meeting. The easements will permanently preserve 1,400 acres of prime farmland in Baltimore, Charles, Dorchester, Frederick, Garrett, Queen Anne’s, Washington, and Wicomico counties for an investment of more than $8 million.

KEEP MARYLAND BEAUTIFUL GRANTS The Maryland departments of Natural Resources, Transportation, and Agriculture have partnered with the Chesapeake Bay Trust to accept applications for this year’s Keep Maryland Beautiful Grants. These grants are offered annually to Maryland volunteer groups, nonprofits, communities, and land trusts to support environmental education projects, community stewardship, and urban and rural projects that protect natural resources.
