At Harborview Farms in Kent County, Trey Hill plants cover crops between growing seasons to reduce erosion and runoff from his fields. Another added benefit of cover crops has only recently been recognized: they help pull carbon dioxide out of the air and store it in the soil after they die. Not only does this make for healthier soil, it also helps fight climate change.

CECIL COUNTY DAIRY FARM AWARDED ANIMAL WASTE TECHNOLOGY GRANT MDA has awarded a $1.5 million Animal Waste Technology Grant to Long Green Farms, Inc. to install an on-farm anaerobic digester at its 145-head dairy operation in Cecil County. The award is part of the state’s ongoing commitment to managing animal manure, protecting natural resources, and pursuing clean, renewable energy sources.

EQUINE SURVEY UNDERWAY The American Horse Council has launched its latest National Economic Impact Survey to demonstrate the value of the equine industry to the national and state economies.
