MCCR invites community members, advocates, government leaders, and civil rights partners to join us for the Protecting Civil Rights During Challenging Times 2026 Symposium, a powerful convening dedicated to education, dialogue, and collective action.

In moments of social, economic, and political uncertainty, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are not optional values, they are essential tools for protecting civil and human rights. DEI strengthens our communities by ensuring that every individual, regardless of race, color, national origin, disability, sex, religion, age, familial status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or income, is seen, heard, and treated fairly under the law.

This symposium will highlight how DEI:

  • Promotes equity in access and opportunity, ensuring that systems, policies, and practices are fair and responsive to the needs of all communities
  • Builds trust between communities and institutions, fostering transparency, accountability, and shared responsibility
  • Strengthens democracy and civic engagement, by uplifting diverse voices and lived experiences
  • Protects against discrimination and bias, especially during times of heightened social tension or change

Through meaningful conversations, expert panels, and community-centered engagement, participants will gain practical tools, legal insights, and strategies to advance civil rights and inclusive practices across workplaces, schools, housing, public accommodations, and government services.

Together, we will explore how collaboration between community members, public servants, and civil rights leaders can sustain progress, address emerging challenges, and reaffirm our collective commitment to justice, fairness, and belonging for all Marylanders.

Join us as we stand united, educating, empowering, and engaging to protect civil rights today and for generations to come.
