2024 SLRC Annual Genealogy Lecture Series: Telling Your Family Story, with Annette Burke Lyttle

You've been researching your ancestors for years and have amassed an enormous amount of information, but what do you do with all of it? Join us for the Maryland State Library Resource Center’s 2024 Annual Genealogy Lecture Series and learn to tell your family story! Annette Burke Lyttle, professional genealogist, speaker, educator and owner of Heritage Detective, LLC, will present four lectures:
- Write (and Document) as You Research
- Get Organized to Write Your Family Stories
- Write Family Stories Others Will Want to Read
- Enhancements and a Word About Publishing
Annette Burke Lyttle owns Heritage Detective, LLC, where she provides professional genealogical services in research, education, and writing. She speaks on a variety of genealogical topics at the national, state, and local levels and loves helping people uncover and share their family stories. She is coordinator of the Fall Virtual Intermediate Foundations course for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. Annette leads Best Practices Study Groups for a number of organizations, providing in-depth education on the genealogical research process in an interactive setting. She is president of the Association of Professional Genealogists and editor of The Florida Genealogist.

This event will be presented both virtually and in-person; however, it will not be recorded. If you would like to attend virtually, you can access the virtual event from the Pratt's Facebook page or YouTube page on the date and time included here. Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided to in-person attendees. The first lecture will start at approximately 10:30am.
National Library Service, Library of Congress Partner on Contest to Celebrate America's Field Trip
The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled and the Library of Congress are excited to be participating in America’s Field Trip, part of the official celebration of the nation’s semiquincentennial – the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
America’s Field Trip is a nationwide contest inviting students in grades 3 through 12 to submit artwork, videos, or essays responding to the question “What does America mean to you?” First-place winners will have the opportunity to participate in special tours at historical, educational, and cultural sites across the country such as Yellowstone National Park, the Statue of Liberty, and the Library of Congress.
The deadline to enter is May 17, 2024. Find more information and submission guidelines at //america250.org/FieldTrip.

Applications Open for 2024 Maureen Hayes Author/Illustrator Award
The ALSC Programs and Services Recognition Committee is now accepting applications for the 2024 Maureen Hayes Author/Illustrator Award! This award was established with funding from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, in honor of Maureen Hayes, to bring together children and nationally recognized authors/illustrators by funding up to $4000 for an author/illustrator visit to a library.
Applications and supporting materials, including an itemized budget and the required signature form, are due by April 19, 2024. Please visit:
