Fundraising Inc.: How to Unlock Corporate Support for Your Library - March 5*
Tuesday, March 5; 2 - 3 p.m.
From the local coffee shop to multinational organizations, many corporations share our passion for libraries and literacy. Library Trustees, Friends, and Foundations are ideal ambassadors to connect businesses with ways to support the library – through funds, advocacy, and promotion. In this panel discussion, experienced fundraisers and corporate representatives who have supported libraries will discuss how we can capitalize on that connection to raise money. The program will begin with the panelists sharing their perspectives on how library staff, Trustees, Friends, and Foundations can help catalyze corporate support. The speakers will share stories of how corporations have supported libraries and what drives organizational giving. This session will conclude with a Q&A with panelists.

Barnyard Bedtime Tales Wins Top Honors at International Event
The Maryland State Fair, in partnership with Baltimore County Public Library and MSLA, has been awarded first place and division champion (Agricultural Program/Exhibit Category) by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions for the Barnyard Bedtime Tales program.
During the three Saturday evenings of the Fair, youth came to the Cow Palace to read bedtime stories to the baby animals on display in the U-Learn Barn animal education area. The youth were seated, with family members, next to the animals’ pens where they read agricultural-themed books provided by the local library. When the families left, they were given an “I Read to the Animals at the MSF” sticker provided by the library system and a free agriculture book donated by a Maryland State Fair board member. Barnyard Bedtime Tales allowed 325 young readers to practice their reading skills without judgment or critique, helping them become stronger in their language arts skills.

Align Library Services with Community Aspirations: The most successful library services are often those that help the community meet its aspirations while also honoring the unique purpose of the library. But balancing the community’s goals and the library’s scope is not always an easy task. When Audrey Barbakoff teaches library workers how to co-create services with their communities, there are questions she hears most often. What if the community’s goals are much different than what we traditionally think of as a library issue? What if they have nothing to do with books, reading, or even education? How do we support the community and stay in scope?
Together We Heal: Exploring Mental Health Peer Support at the Library: More and more people are turning to libraries for mental health resources. Learn how one library in rural Texas is supporting its community members’ mental health with creative programming and resources that take a whole-person, whole-community approach.
Advancing IDEAs: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, 20 February 2024: This is the latest Hanging Together blog post, part of a regular series on issues of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, compiled by a team of OCLC contributors.
