PLA Webinar: Disability Inclusion in Library Services - October 17*
Tuesday, October 17; 2 - 3 p.m.
To best serve patrons with disabilities, we need to understand their community, culture, and needs. In this webinar, we will explore disability experiences, how to provide safe and inclusive spaces, and how to serve patrons through programming and collections. Although the examples will be youth focused, they can be adapted for any age.
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to: • Evaluate books about disabled characters for good or harmful representation; • Understand how to structure programs to set patrons up for success; and • Dispel at least two harmful myths that keep people with disabilities out of community spaces.

Community Preservation Day - October 21*
Saturday, October 21; 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The Maryland State Archives is excited to announce that we will be hosting our second Community Preservation Day on Saturday, October 21st from 10:00am to 2:00pm in Windsor Mill, MD. We invite members of the local community to preserve their documents, photos, and letters through digital imaging.
Archivists will work with community members to describe and scan their items, so that they may take home their original materials in free archival storage containers and receive the resulting digital copies as well. We ask that the participants also share digital copies of their items with the Archives in order to collaboratively create a permanent electronic collection that allows everyone to see themselves in the Archives. The Archives will include these images in a publicly-accessible digital series within its Special Collections to document and share community history.
Pre-registration is required.
Please note the location of this in-person event is at our off-site facility at 2255 Rolling Run Dr., Windsor Mill, MD 21244 and not our main headquarters in Annapolis.

Library Journal Day of Dialog - October 26*
Thursday, October 26; 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
For more than two decades, Library Journal’s Day of Dialog has been the most anticipated librarian-only gathering of the year. Now it’s gone digital and is free to attend! The next all-day event is scheduled for October 26 and will feature a close-up look at the biggest forthcoming books for winter/spring 2024. Once again, you will hear from top authors in genre fiction, literary fiction, and nonfiction and learn about the latest titles and trends. And you still get to dialog by visiting virtual booths, talking with authors, and networking with colleagues.
Check out the Full Program!
All live sessions will be on Zoom. Make sure to log in to your work or personal Zoom account before the day starts to avoid having to log in for each session.
Maryland State Archives' November Lunch and Learn - November 9*
Thursday, November 9; 1 - 2 p.m.
Join former Maryland State Archivist, Dr. Edward C. Papenfuse, as he shares his research on the under-appreciated and unknown washerwomen of Baltimore during the period of 1800 to 1864 and explores what the archival sources reveal.
