Are You Flood Prepared?

In Maryland and across the world, we have seen devastating floods and you may be thinking, "Do I need flood insurance?" Flood damage is one of the most common and costly disasters in the United States. Just one inch of water can cause $25,000 in damage. Flooding can happen almost anywhere, even if you do not live in a high-risk area known as a “special hazard flood zone.”

Visit our website for tools and resources to help you understand your flood risk. Remember:

Most standard homeowners and renters policies do not cover flood damage. You need a separate flood insurance policy for that protection.
Check your flood risk even if you’re not in a “high-risk” zone.
Don’t wait! Most flood insurance policies have a 30-day waiting period.
Understand your coverage limits. Flood insurance typically covers both the structure and your personal belongings, but there are limits.
Keep important documents in a water-proof space or the cloud. Update your home inventory by using the Home Inventory App.
