Wicomico Co Man Charged with Setting his Home on Fire

WICOMICO COUNTY, OCTOBER 25, 2026,  Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a Salisbury man after he intentionally set fire to his home on October 24, 2026.  The 5:35 PM incident which occurred in the 6000 block of Hunters Mill Drive in Salisbury brought 40 firefighters out to battle the blaze.  The 1 alarm fire was brought under control in 30 minutes but not before causing approximately $175,000.00 in damages.

Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal were requested to the scene by the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department to conduct an origin and cause investigation.

Deputy State Fire Marshals determined the fire which had originated in the attached garage of the one-story single-family home had been intentionally and maliciously set.  The criminal investigation developed the homeowner identified as Michael Satterfield, a 66-year-old white male as the suspect.  Enough evidence was obtained by Deputy State Fire Marshals to apply for and receive an arrest warrant for Satterfield.  A Deputy State Fire Marshal served Satterfield early this morning while he was being detained at the Wicomico County Detention Center on related traffic charges by the Maryland State Police.

Satterfield was charged with Arson 1st Degree, Arson 2nd Degree, Malicious Burning 1st Degree, Malicious Burning 2nd degree, Threat of Arson, Intoxicated Danger, Reckless Endangerment and five (5) counts of Animal Cruelty.  Satterfield was charged with animal cruelty as he left five cats in the residence after setting the fire.  The cats were found unharmed by firefighters after the fire was extinguished.

If found guilty of all charges, Satterfield faces a maximum penalty of over 72 years of imprisonment and/or over $105,000.00 in fines.  He was seen by a commissioner and was held without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center.  The Office of the State’s Attorney for Wicomico County responded to the scene the night of the fire to work alongside Deputy State Fire Marshals.
