Preliminary Cause: Under Investigation
Additional Information: The occupants were preparing to go to bed when they heard a sound and discovered the vehicle was on fire. Mr. Jenkins sustained burns to his right hand while attempting to disconnect the vehicle from its charging cable. He then used a garden hose to attempt to extinguish the fire. The fire extended into the garage, extensively damaging the two vehicles inside, and both are considered a complete loss. Firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevented the fire from extending into the home. The home sustained heat, smoke, soot, and water damage. The family of four is displaced and is self-assisting. Harford County Special Operations Hazmat Team responded to the scene to assist with mitigating the battery disposal. It was determined the fire was extinguished, and the owner would have to make his disposition with its removal.
