42 year old Carroll County Man Charged with Arson
CARROLL COUNTY, July 13, 2024, Deputy State Fire Marshals were requested to investigate a suspicious fire on July 12, 2024 in Carroll County. The 4:01 PM incident located at 3154 Baltimore Boulevard in Finksburg brought 25 firefighters from the Reese Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding fire companies to battle the blaze. Firefighters observed a commercial storage trailer to the rear of the above address fully involved in flames upon their arrival. It took firefighters 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Damages are estimated to be $1,000.00. Through the investigation, it was learned that Mr. Gary Watts owned the commercial storage trailer.
Deputy State Fire Marshals from the North East Regional Office responded to conduct an origin and cause investigation at the request of the fire department. Investigators determined the fire to be arson. Deputy State Fire Marshals along with Troopers from the Maryland State Police, Westminster Barack reviewed numerous security cameras in the area and observed a white male entering and exiting the trailer just prior to the blaze. Investigators later recognized the person in the video as Mr. Joseph Affayroux (42). Affayroux had been charged with numerous trash fires earlier in the week within the Liberty Reservoir as well as a dumpster fire in the area of Wards Chapel Road and Maryland Route 26 by the Baltimore Environmental Police.
Deputy State Fire Marshals were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Affayroux for Second Degree Arson, Malicious Burning First Degree and Malicious Destruction of Property. Troopers from the Westminster barrack took Affayroux into custody today (7/13/24) and transported him to the Carroll County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
