WOMAN CHARGED IN HAVRE DE GRACE FIRE 

HARFORD COUNTY, MD (February 2, 2021) - Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged Alyssa O'Brien, 23, after determining she was responsible for intentionally setting a mattress on fire in the basement of an occupied Havre De Grace home. 

On July 5, 2020, at 2:40 a.m., Susquehanna Hose Company responded to the 100 block of Anderson Lane for a reported house fire. Firefighters arrived at the one-story, single-family dwelling and discovered all of the occupants had safely exited. Firefighters made entered the home and subsequently discovered a mattress on fire within the basement. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within minutes, and no injuries were reported. 

Havre De Grace Police Department was requested to the scene due to a domestic dispute between O'Brien and the owner's adult son. Deputy State Fire Marshals were requested to conduct an origin and cause investigation. Investigators concluded the fire was intentionally set and determined O'Brien was responsible for setting the fire during the course of their investigation. The home sustained approximately $500.00 in damages.

After consultation with the Harford County State's Attorney's Office, charges were filed against O'Brien. She was charged with Arson 1st Degree, Arson 2nd Degree, Malicious Burning 2nd Degree, and four counts of Reckless Endangerment. 

After receiving a tip of her whereabouts, O'Brien was taken into custody this afternoon by Havre De Grace Police Department. O'Brien was transported to Harford County Detention Center, where she is currently awaiting a bond review.
