THREE-ALARM BLAZE STRIKES POPULAR CECIL COUNTY AUTO DEALERSHIP
CECIL COUNTY, MD (August 31, 2018) - A team of Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing their investigation into the origin and cause of a three-alarm blaze at Reb's Used Cars located at 513 Mechanics Valley Road in North East.
A Trooper from the Maryland State Police Aviation Command was the first to arrive at the 4:16 p.m. fire and observed heavy fire within the detached garage of the used auto dealership. The fire quickly spread throughout the garage and investigators contribute the fast moving fire to an open garage door as well as an extensive amount of tires and flammable products throughout the shop. The business, owned by David Carder, consists of an approximate 40' x 60' detached garage, as well as a two-story building with offices on the first floor and three apartments located on the second floor. A vehicle was located within the garage at the time of the fire.
Nearly 50 firefighters responded from Cecil and Harford counties as well Pennsylvania and controlled the blaze within two hours. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage with extensive heat, soot and water damage to the adjacent office and apartments. There were no reported injuries. A total of nine people are displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross as result of the fire. Early estimates to the loss of the structure and contents are valued at nearly $200,000.00
