Hurlock Man Arrested for Queen Anne's County Arson

Queen Anne's County, May 9, 2018,  Deputy State Fire Marshals from the Upper Eastern Regional Office have arrested Michael Johnson Shufelt Jr. for arson and other related charges from a 2016 incident.  The fire which occurred on April 27, 2016 on Ferrick Road in the area of Spaniard Neck Road in Centreville brought out 4 firefighters from the Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company to extinguish the 1 alarm blaze within the passenger compartment of a 2000 Ford F-250 truck.  The fire occurred at 3:21 AM and a fire investigator was requested to respond to the scene.  The truck was later determined to be owned by Brian Shufelt, a relative of Michael Shufelt Jr. 

Investigators determined the fire to be ARSON and the two year-long investigation concluded with today’s arrest of Michael Shufelt Jr.  He was located at his Hurlock home by Deputy State Fire Marshals after they obtained a warrant for his arrest from the Queen Anne’s County Commissioner.  He was taken into custody without incident.  Shufelt was charged with Arson 2nd Degree, Malicious Burning 1st Degree, Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,000.00 and Unlawfully Taking a Motor Vehicle.   He was seen by a Court Commissioner in Caroline County where he was held with no bond.

If convicted on all 4 charges, Shufelt faces a maximum penalty of 33 years of imprisonment and/or $42,500.00 in fines.
