HAMPSTEAD FIRE CLAIMS LIFE

CARROLL COUNTY, MD. (November 13, 2016) – A team of Deputy State Fire Marshals are currently investigating a single family dwelling fire which has claimed one life.  At 1:29 a.m., the​ Hampstead Volunteer​ Fire Company was dispatched for a ​dwelling​fire in the 2600 Block of  Hoffman Mill Road​,​ Hampstead,​ Carroll County, Maryland. The one alarm incident brought 35 firefighters to the scene and took approximately 30 minutes to bring under control. 

The origin and cause of this fire is currently under investigation by personnel on the scene. This fire involved a two story wood framed single family dwelling and the structure is estimated to be a complete loss due to the damage. 

One adult has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where the victim will be positively identified and the cause and manner of death determined.

An occupant identified as 69-year-old Robert Schech has been transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center where he is listed in guarded condition. 

At this time Investigators are actively working the fire scene to determine the cause for this tragic incident. The investigation is also being assisted by members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
