ELKTON FIRE CLAIMS TWO LIVES

CECIL COUNTY, MD. (October 18, 2016) – A team of Deputy State Fire Marshals are currently investigating a single family dwelling fire which has claimed two lives. On ​Monday​​October 17, 2016​ at ​9:24 p.m., the​ Singlery Volunteer​ Fire Company was dispatched for a ​dwelling​ fire in the 100 Block of  Deaver Road​,​ Elkton,​ Cecil County, Maryland. 

First arriving fire department personnel reported heavy fire showing at the rear of the dwelling with occupants unaccounted for. During the course of fire suppression activities one victim was recovered deceased. A second victim was recovered deceased earlier today during the fire scene examination by State Fire Marshals. 

The bodies have been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification and to determine cause and manner of death. The fire scene examination is ongoing at this time, with the fire origin and cause under investigation. 

The one alarm fire brought 50 firefighters to the scene and it took approximately three hours to bring the blaze under control. The Singerly Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by multiple adjacent mutual aid departments.
