The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is making great progress on the I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETL) Northbound Extension/MD 24 Interchange Reconstruction Project and is providing this update to keep you informed of construction activities in your area.
Reconfiguration of the MD 24 interchange to accommodate the future northbound I-95 ETL requires changes to existing traffic patterns that include removal, relocation, or addition of ramps resulting in new ways drivers will access I-95, MD 24 and MD 924.
The MDTA advises motorists that on the weekend of September 5, 2025, construction crews will be performing major work to prepare for the realignment of northbound MD 24 onto the new bridge structure in addition to the opening of the new ramps to MD 924.
This work will necessitate lane shifts on northbound MD 24 and closures and detours of I-95 ramps. Motorists can expect major impacts to traffic and should allow extra time or seek alternate routes.
Closures and Detours
Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, and continuing through the weekend until 5 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025, the following ramps will be closed with detours in place:
- The on-ramp from northbound MD 24 to southbound I-95,
- The off-ramp from northbound I-95 to MD 924 (Exit 77B).
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing through until 5 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2025, the following ramp will be closed with a detour in place:
- The off-ramp from southbound I-95 to MD 924 (Exit 77B).
Northbound MD 24 to Southbound I-95
The existing on-ramp from northbound MD 24 to southbound I-95 will be closed with the detour below in place.
 Traffic will be detoured to MD 924, make a left at the signal at Tollgate Road, then turn left onto southbound MD 24. From there, detoured traffic will exit MD 24 via the on-ramp to southbound I-95.
Northbound I-95 to MD 924 (Exit 77B)
The existing off-ramp from northbound I-95 to MD 924 (Exit 77B) will be closed with the detour below in place.
 Traffic will be detoured to the off-ramp at Exit 77A (MD 24) and turn left at the intersection.
Southbound I-95 to MD 924 (Exit 77B)
The existing off-ramp from southbound I-95 to MD 924 will be closed with the detour below in place.
 Traffic will be detoured to the off-ramp at Exit 74 (MD 152) and will make a left onto southbound MD 152 before making a left onto the I-95 northbound on-ramp. Traffic will travel north on I-95 to the Exit 77A off-ramp and make a left at the intersection onto MD 24 or MD 924.
