What exactly is a Zero Emissions Building?
As of June 6th, we have an answer! The U.S. Dept. of Energy has released a verifiable standard for defining a zero emissions building. In short, these buildings are “highly energy efficient, free of on-site emissions from energy use, and powered solely by clean energy sources.” Having a national standard will provide consistency in evaluating buildings across jurisdictions, offer a roadmap for long-term capital planning, and inform both building owners and tenants.
