Claim your $10 Starbucks card!

Help expand the growing number of environmental success stories in Maryland by recruiting a new member to the Maryland Green Registry and earn yourself a $10 Starbucks gift card.  Recruit five or more new members and you'll also receive a 16-ounce reusable travel coffee cup like the one above. Starbucks encourages the use of reusable cups and offers a 10-cent discount to customers that bring in their own mug.

How the promotion works:  Invite businesses and organizations to join the Maryland Green Registry, (see sample language here), and ask them to add your name to the referral line on the application.

The promotion will run through the end of the year or until the cards run out so start spreading the news. That free pumpkin spice latte is just a call, conversation or e-mail away!

EV

Are you EV ready?

As the percentage of plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) on the road continues to grow, you'll want to prepare your facility or talk to your building owner about steps toward allowing employees to charge their vehicles while at work.  This Get Your Building Ready for Electric Vehicles Fact Sheet from EPA has recommendations on buying energy efficient chargers, surveying employees, and a link to an archived webinar on deploying EV charging stations in commercial buildings.  You may also be eligible for these incentives for Maryland businesses: EV charging equipment rebates and solar canopy with EV charging grant.

Limiting Litter

Litter has a way of finding its way to storm drains and bodies of water, ultimately impacting aquatic life.  Here are a few ways you can ensure it doesn't come from your property:

  • Ensure dumpsters, trash and recycling containers have secure lids and are located away from storm drains.
  • Place an adequate number of trash and recycling containers in parking lots as well as outside of building entrances.
  • Conduct regular litter pickups on your property.
  • Place a cigarette butt receptacle outside near smoking areas.
  • Take note of the type of materials found in the bins and consider ways to reduce that waste stream.

Nothing builds appreciation for the need to reduce litter in our waterways more than a litter cleanup event. Consider partnering with a local watershed group to hold an employee event.  Many of these groups will provide the supplies.
