The following regulatory proposals have been printed in the Maryland Register and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is seeking comments on the proposed regulations. Comments provide the department with additional information and perspectives.

GILL NETS - Bycatch in Striped Bass Gill Nets

  • The Department has proposed to allow an individual participating in the striped bass Chesapeake Bay drift gill net fishery (December-February) to harvest other species of fish while fishing for striped bass using large mesh (5 to 7 inches) drift gill nets.

MENHADEN, TAUTOG, AND WEAKFISH

  • The Department would like to require fish dealers to allow Department biologists access to Atlantic menhaden, tautog, and weakfish landed in Maryland to obtain lengths and weights of these species.

Please visit our Changes to Fishing Regulations page for information about what has been proposed and how to submit comments.

All comments must be received by 11:59 p.m. on October 19, 2026
