A New Garden for Graystone
NeighborSpace of Baltimore County has been working with the Graystone Community Association since 2009, when it responded to the Association’s request to purchase the 0.3-acre property that is now Graystone Community Open Space. This grass lot in Woodlawn, Baltimore County, is affectionately referred to as “the neighborhood’s living room” or simply “the lot” by neighbors.
While the site in its current state has served the community well, the Association Board had a more ambitious vision for the Open Space. They hoped to create a neighborhood park that draws people in and allows for a range of activities. Thanks to a Community Stewardship grant from MET's Keep Maryland Beautiful Grant Program, NeighborSpace was able to implement a first element of the University of Maryland students’ master plans and install a large pollinator garden along the slope. The Future of Climate: What Three Generations of Scientists Revealed
Past event | Online recording
In 1987, the Smithsonian launched a futuristic experiment that would transform how we think about climate. Inside small experimental chambers, a few scientists doubled the amount of carbon dioxide to see how wetland plants would cope. Today, that project is the world’s longest-running experiment on plants and rising carbon dioxide. Watch the recording to find out what we know for certain, what mysteries remain, and why wetlands may be one of Earth’s greatest hopes for a resilient future. Learn more.
