Furs, Feathers, and Skulls!

Drop by the Lake House for this hands-on program, where Ranger Hannah will be displaying a collection of furs, feathers, and skulls. Test your knowledge of local birds and mammals and learn about the unique traits that set these animals apart. This program is a "come-and-go" style display, so feel free to stop by at any point during the program hours.

Little Legs First Day Hike

10 a.m. at the Lake House
All ages are welcome on this easy-to-moderate 1.5-mile hike on the Ice House Loop. Afterwards, warm up with some hot cocoa by the fire and receive your official “I Hiked!” sticker!
Four-Mile First Day Hike
January 1
2 p.m. at the Lake House
If you’re looking for a healthy start to the New Year, join Ranger Noah on this moderate-to-difficult 4-mile hike. Afterwards, warm up with some hot cocoa by the fire and receive your official “I Hiked!” sticker!

Join Ranger Noah on this easy-to-moderate 1.5-mile hike and learn about some of the strategies that wildlife use to survive the frigid Garrett County winters.

Skiing By Candlelight
January 11
5-9 p.m. at the Lake House (weather dependent)
Enjoy this unique opportunity to ski at night, where the Turnpike Trail will be illuminated by luminaries! This self-guided program will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. If snow conditions are not suitable for skiing, the luminaries will still be lit for any adventurous hikers out for a night hike. Be sure to stop by the Lake House for s’mores and hot cocoa!

New Germany Book Club Meeting

Join Ranger Noah for this month's Book Club meeting and share your thoughts on "The Snow Leopard" by Peter Matthiessen. The club meets once a month for coffee and snacks, while sharing insights and thoughts about a nature-themed book. Participants who attend six club meetings will receive a free night of camping. Park PROs: Intro to Snowshoeing and Winter Hiking

2-4 p.m. at the Lake House
Join Ranger Julia for this Park PROs presentation on how to snowshoe and safely enjoy winter hiking. The first hour will be indoors, followed by an optional guided hike to practice new skills. A limited number of snowshoes will be available to try if there is adequate snow. All ages are welcome. No registration required.

Movie Night - Small Foot

Enjoy this free showing of "Small Foot" (Rated PG). Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase at the Snack Bar, as well as complimentary s’mores.

Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and check for ticks.
