The Maryland Water Monitoring Council will hold its 30th Annual Conference at the Maritime Conference Center, North Linthicum, Maryland, on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The theme of the one-day conference is MWMC @ 30: Celebrating Successes and Tackling Emerging Challenges. The conference will include a plenary session, several concurrent breakout sessions, posters, exhibitor tables, plenty of snacks and, of course, the famous Maritime Conference Center all-you-can-eat buffet lunch. You’ll also have plenty of time to network and catch up with old friends and colleagues during breaks.
In its 30-year history, the Maryland Water Monitoring Council has seen and been a part of many separate efforts with the same overarching goal: to improve Maryland’s aquatic, terrestrial, and atmospheric environments. A slew of impactful work around the state has made concrete progress toward that goal – collecting data, instituting changes, sharing information, advancing technology, and enacting policies. This year, for the MWMC’s 30th anniversary, we are shining a spotlight on and raising a glass of well-oxygenated stream water to the accomplishments of these efforts.
Even as we celebrate, the MWMC recognizes that such successes mark a milestone and not a finish line. The upcoming conference will also highlight ongoing and emerging challenges that require our focused efforts to overcome.
We hope you join us on November 21st!

CARL WEBER AWARDS
This year will mark the 18th Annual Carl S. Weber Award presented to an individual (or individuals) involved in water monitoring in Maryland. The ideal candidate will share the spirit, vision and leadership exemplified by Dr. Carl Weber. The Award honors those who have volunteered their time and energy towards increasing watershed awareness, advocacy and stewardship of the waters of Maryland.
This will also be the eighth year the Above and Beyond Award will be presented. This award allows the MWMC to recognize someone who represents the next generation of Maryland’s water monitors and the future of the MWMC. In recognition of the contributions of an up-and-coming member of the Maryland’s environmental community, the Above and Beyond Award is presented to a member who has volunteered time and energy towards the monitoring of Maryland’s waters and has made a significant contribution to increasing watershed awareness, advocacy, education and stewardship.
