Celebrate National Trails Day on this challenging, 6-mile hike with Ranger Noah, and explore three of New Germany's most beautiful trails! Please wear appropriate footwear and bring water.

Free Fishing Days
June 1 and June 8
All Day
The first two Saturdays in June and July 4 are license-free fishing days all across Maryland! On these days, licenses are not required to catch and possess finfish in tidal and non-tidal waters for recreational purposes. All other fishing laws and regulations still apply.

New Germany Book Club Meeting
June 2
10 a.m. at the Lake House Join Ranger Noah for this month's Book Club meeting and share your thoughts on "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson. The club meets once a month for coffee and snacks, while sharing insights and thoughts about a nature-themed book. Participants who attend six club meetings will receive a free night of camping. Take a Hike Tuesday

Join Ranger Noah on this challenging, 4-mile hike and experience the revitalizing effects of outdoor exercise.

Tree Talk Tuesday
June 4
3 p.m. at the Lake House (weather dependent) Join Ranger Noah and student intern Maddy on this moderate-to-difficult 2-mile hike and learn about some of the 16 native trees that are labeled throughout the park. This will be one of a series of tree talks, with each focusing on different tree species.

Senior Rangers - Week Two

Noon-1:30 p.m. at the Lake House
New Germany State Park will host Senior Rangers, a new series of programs designed for adults ages 55-plus, held every Thursday from May 30 through June 27.
Programs will include mushroom growing, fishing, native plant identification, birding, and foraging.
The programs are free (supported by the Friends of New Germany State Park), but donations are welcome. Registration is required for each weekly program and space is limited. To register, please email noah.manges@maryland.gov.

Weed or Wildflower?

9-10:30 a.m. at the Native Plant Garden (weather dependent)
Want to help preserve our regional biodiversity? Bring your work gloves, kneeling pads, favorite weeding tools, and some elbow grease to remove unwanted plants from the garden.
As you work, you’ll learn how to identify common weeds and why protecting native plants is so critical for wildlife. Meet at the native plant garden near the Lake House. Please bring your own water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

Join Ranger Hannah on this kid-friendly adventure and get a hands-on look at some of the creatures that live in Poplar Lick. Please wear shoes and be prepared to get your feet wet!

10 a.m. at the Nature Center, next to the Lake House
Join Ranger Hannah for some classic kid-friendly campfire stories. Complimentary coffee and s’mores will be available. This program will take place inside the Lake House if it rains.

Park PROs: Making Tea with Hemlock Reishi Mushrooms

3 p.m. at the Lake House (weather dependent) Come out and enjoy this fun and unique Park PROs opportunity to make tea from hemlock varnish shelf ("reishi") mushrooms. Ranger Noah will lead you on this fungi adventure, which will include an easy-to-moderate 2-mile hike.

7:30 p.m. at the Lake House Enjoy this free showing of "Wall-E" (Rated G). Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase at the Snack Bar, as well as complimentary s’mores.

Wildflower Watercolor

Noon at the Native Plant Garden
Release your inner artist during this peaceful outdoor painting activity with Ranger Hannah. This program is best-suited for adults and teens. No pets please. Basic art supplies will be provided. This program will take place inside the Lake House if it rains.

Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and check for ticks.
