New Germany Book Club Meeting
May 5
10 a.m. at the Lake House Join Ranger Noah for this month's Book Club meeting and share your thoughts on "Grandma Gatewood's Walk" by Ben Montgomery. The club meets once a month for coffee and snacks, while sharing insights and thoughts about a nature-themed book. Participants who attend six club meetings will receive a free night of camping. Weed or Wildflower?
May 8
9-10:30 a.m. at the Native Plant Garden (weather dependent)
Want to help preserve our regional biodiversity? Bring your work gloves, kneeling pads, favorite weeding tools and some elbow grease to remove unwanted plants from the garden.
As you work, you’ll learn how to identify common weeds and why protecting native plants is so critical for wildlife. Meet at the native plant garden near the Lake House. Please bring your own water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

Mountain Maryland Native Plant Festival

10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Discover the important connection between native plants, people, and wildlife at the ninth annual plant festival!
A large variety of native plants and nature-themed artisan items will be available for sale (cash or check only). Educational programs and family-friendly outdoor activities at the festival will highlight native plants and biodiversity. Experts from local organizations will be available to answer questions on native plants and other conservation topics throughout the day.
New Germany State Park, the Friends of New Germany, and the Western Mountains Chapter of the Maryland Native Plant Society are co-sponsoring this free event. For more information, please call 301-895-5453 or visit the event website.

Take a Hike Tuesday

10 a.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting)
Join Ranger Noah on this challenging, 4-mile hike and experience the revitalizing effects of outdoor exercise.

Tree Talk Tuesday
May 14
3 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting) Join Ranger Noah and student intern Maddy on this moderate-to-difficult 2-mile hike and learn about some of the 16 native trees that are labeled throughout the park. This will be one of a series of tree talks, with each focusing on different tree species.

Old Time Jam

6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Lake House
Musicians and listeners of all ages are invited to share and enjoy traditional “old-timey” music.
Snacks and gifts will be available for purchase.

Amphibian Craft and Hike
May 18
2-4 p.m.at the Nature Center - next to the Lake House (weather permitting) Join volunteer naturalists Deb and Peggy for this kid-friendly craft and learn about some of the unique characteristics of frogs and salamanders. This activity will also include a short hike to search for salamanders.

Movie Night - Ferdinand
May 18
7 p.m. at the Lake House Enjoy this free showing of "Ferdinand" (Rated PG). Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase at the Snack Bar, as well as complimentary s’mores.

Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and check for ticks.

Annual Pass Available for Purchase
$75 for Marylanders; $100 for out-of-state visitors
Our annual State Parks and Trails Passport grants unlimited day-use admission and boat launching at state parks, and a 10 percent discount on state-operated concessions and boat rentals. To enhance convenience and value, this year's pass will arrive in a self-contained packet with a detachable hang-tag, and will be valid for a full year from the month of purchase. Our network of 75 state parks include more than 900 miles of trails for biking, hiking and horseback riding, as well as unique water access and camping facilities.
