EGGstreme Easter Egg Hunt
March 30
8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Lake House
Bring the whole family to this EGGstreme event, featuring more than 5,000 eggs hidden along 10 miles of trails within the park!
This event will involve hiking on trails with various difficulty ratings (some may not be suitable for small children). All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the entire activity.
Families can register at the Lake House at any time during the event. Candy and prizes will be awarded only to those who are registered and who return their eggs while supplies last.
Families should dress appropriately for hiking and bring their own necessities, such as drinking water and Easter baskets. Kona Ice and The Travel Mug will be on site. Trail maps will be provided.
This event is sponsored by the Friends of New Germany State Park, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the park. Donations are welcome. For questions or to get involved as a volunteer, please email or call 301-895-5453.

If you can't make it to the EGGstreme Easter Egg Hunt on March 30, you can still join in the fun throughout the month of April. If you happen to find any eggs while hiking the trails, please bring them to the Ranger Station to see if you won a prize!
Furs, Feathers, and Skulls
April 6
12:30-2 p.m. at the Lake House Drop by the Lake House for this hands-on program, where Ranger Noah will be displaying a collection of furs, feathers, and skulls. Test your knowledge of local birds and mammals and learn about the unique traits that set these animals apart. This program is a "come-and-go" style display, so feel free to stop by at any point during the program timeframe.

Park PROs - Mushroom Gardening
April 6
3-4 p.m.at the Lake House Join Ranger Noah for this hands-on Park PROs program and learn how to grow your very own oyster mushroom garden using the "totem method". Please bring gardening gloves and hiking boots. Photo credit: Geff Stewart

Evening Waterfowl Viewing
April 7
6:30 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting) Bring a camp chair and binoculars and join Ranger Noah for an evening of glassing for waterfowl on New Germany Lake. This program will include a short walk to the boat ramp. Photo credit: Mohammed Mubashir

Solar Eclipse Watch Party
April 8
2-4:30 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting) Join Ranger Noah for this rare opportunity to view a solar eclipse! The watch party will begin at 2 p.m., but guests are welcome to stop by at any point during the program timeframe. The eclipse will peak at 3:21 p.m. A limited supply of viewing glasses will be available, along with some light snacks and outdoor games. Registerstration is not required but is greatly appreciated. Take a Hike Tuesday

Join Ranger Noah on this challenging, 4-mile hike and experience the revitalizing effects of outdoor exercise.

Tree Talk Tuesday
April 9
3 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting) Join Ranger Noah and Student Intern Maddy on this moderate-to-difficult 2-mile hike and learn about some of the 16 native trees that are labeled throughout the park. This will be one of a series of tree talks, with each focusing on different tree species.

Box Turtle Habitat Craft
April 13
2 p.m. at the Lake House Join Volunteer Naturalists Deb and Peggy for this kid-friendly craft and learn about some of the unique characteristics that help keep eastern box turtles safe in their natural habitat.

New Germany Book Club Meeting
April 14
10 a.m. at the Lake House Join Ranger Noah for this month's Book Club meeting and share your thoughts on "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer. The club meets once a month for coffee and snacks, while sharing insights and thoughts about a nature-themed book. Participants who attend six club meetings will receive a free night of camping. Registration is required. Please email noah.manges@maryland.gov to register.

Our annual State Parks and Trails Passport grants unlimited day-use admission and boat launching at state parks, and a 10 percent discount on state-operated concessions and boat rentals.
