Join Ranger Julia for this Park PROs presentation and learn some essential skills for being prepared and handling emergencies in Maryland's wilderness. There will be opportunities to practice skills outdoors, weather permitting. No registration required.

March 18: Spring Equinox Hike 8 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting)
Celebrate the last day of winter by joining Ranger Noah on this easy 1-mile night hike. Listen to the sounds of the spring peepers, feel the warmer weather coming and watch for the stars in the sky. Halfway through the hike we will enjoy s’mores and hot chocolate around the campfire while Ranger Noah discusses the history and traditions of the spring equinox. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp.

March 19: Take-A-Hike Tuesday 10 a.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting)
Join Ranger Noah on this challenging 4-mile hike and experience the revitalizing effects of outdoor exercise. The hike takes about two hours.

March 19: Tree Talk Tuesday 3 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting)
Join Ranger Noah and student intern Maddy on this moderate-to-difficult 2-mile hike, and learn about some of the 16 native trees that are labeled throughout the park. This will be one of a series of tree talks, with each focusing on different tree species.

March 23: Park PROs - Introduction to Fishing 10 a.m.-noon at the Lake House (weather permitting)
During this informal how-to class, Rangers Brian and Noah will provide one-on-one instruction on basic fishing techniques for beginner anglers ages six and up. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Fishing gear and bait will be supplied. Participants ages 16 and up will need a valid Maryland non-tidal fishing license.

March 23: Park PROs - Hickory Syrup Making and Tasting 3 p.m. at the Lake House
Come out and enjoy this fun and unique Park PROs opportunity to make hickory syrup from shagbark hickory trees. Ranger Noah will take you through all the steps you need to know to make your own hickory syrup at home. Free samples will be offered at the end of the program. An easy 1-mile hike will be offered afterwards for anyone who wants to see actual shagbark hickory trees.

March 24: Park PROs - Intro to Maple Syrup Making 10 a.m. at the Lake House
Interested in tapping your own maple trees for syrup? Join Ranger Noah for this Park PROs introduction class, where you will learn all the steps you need to make your very own maple syrup. This 1-hour program will include a short walk to get to the maple trees.

March 25: Full Moon Hike 8:30 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting)
Embrace the beauty of the forest under a full moon on this 1-mile hike with Ranger Noah. This "Worm Moon" will be the first full moon of spring. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp.

March 30: EGGstreme Easter Egg Hunt 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Lake House
Bring the whole family to this EGGstreme event, featuring more than 5,000 eggs hidden along 10 miles of trails within the park!
This event will involve hiking on trails with various difficulty ratings (some may not be suitable for small children). All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the entire activity.
Families can register at the Lake House at any time during the event. Candy and prizes will be awarded only to those who are registered and who return their eggs while supplies last.
Families should dress appropriately for hiking and bring their own necessities, such as drinking water and Easter baskets. Trail maps will be provided.
