106 Acres Protected Forever in Kent County
When Doug West’s father bought a 106-acre grain farm almost thirty years ago, his hope was that the farm would be preserved. Today, Doug and his wife Sue, the Maryland Environmental Trust, and Eastern Shore Land Conservancy are thrilled to announce that the entire West Farm is under a conservation easement thanks to the West family’s generous donation. “The best part is keeping it as such,” says Sue. “I like the psychology of saying: ‘What is it that you honor and love and would miss?’” For the Wests, the answer to that question is the peaceful grain fields and woodlands of their Kent County farm, now protected forever. MET Hires New Stewardship Planner
Kevin Bull is the new Easement Stewardship Planner at MET. Kevin Graduated with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from UMBC in 2010 with a focus in ecology. Shortly after graduating he was hired by MET as a contractual Easement Steward from late 2011 to early 2013. He moved on to working as an environmental consultant and then the Maryland Department of the Environment where he worked in the Water and Science Administration's Enforcement Program and Compliance Program as an inspector for both Howard and Carroll Counties. He has a wealth of experience with environmental law, regulations and best management practices for permitted water related activities.
Kevin lives in Sykesville with his wife Anne Marie and kids Lucas and Abigail. His hobbies include: aquarium keeping, music, birding, forestry, fishing, working in the yard and just being outdoors. His interest in aquatic and forest ecology has led him to numerous training opportunities including the Maryland Biological Stream Survey and Qualified Forest Professional Training. Kevin is very excited to be back with MET and looks forward to interacting with and assisting all the wonderful easement land owners across Maryland.

MET Hires New Easement Stewardship Specialist
Laural Paterini is MET’s new Easement Stewardship Specialist where she will be monitoring easement properties, collaborating with land trust partners, and working with geospatial technology among other crucial tasks to forward MET's goals. Most recently, prior to joining MET, Laural worked with the Maryland Park Service as a Naturalist at Elk Neck State Park and as a Volunteer Coordinator and Administrative Assistant at Gunpowder Falls State Parks. She has also recently worked as an Environmental Technician with Normandeau Associates on the American shad restoration project at Conowingo Dam, transporting migrating fish around the dam for spawning and removing target invasive species from the Susquehanna River.
Laural graduated with a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology from UMBC. She also has extensive coursework in environmental studies, GIS, and computer science. She is currently attending Johns Hopkins University working on a master's degree in Data Analytics and Policy with a focus on Geospatial Analysis, while concurrently working on a Graduate Certificate from Towson University in Professional Spanish. When Laural is not studying or working to protect the environment, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones, exploring new places, traveling abroad, and volunteering with different non-profit organizations.

The Patuxent Watershed: Maryland's Natural Wonder
