Full moon

November 27: Full Moon Hike
6 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting)

Embrace the beauty of the forest under a full moon on this 1-mile hike with Ranger Noah. This "Beaver Moon" will be the last full moon of autumn. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp.


Furs

December 3: Furs, Feathers, and Skulls!  
10 a.m. - noon at the Lake House 

Drop by the Lake House for this hands-on program, where Ranger Noah will be displaying a collection of furs, feathers, and skulls. Test your knowledge of local birds and mammals and learn about the unique traits that set these animals apart. This program is a "come and go" style display, so visitors are welcome to stop by at any point during the two-hour program window.


Hiking Symbol

December 5: Take A Hike Tuesday
10 a.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting) 

Join Ranger Noah on this challenging 4-mile hike and experience the revitalizing effects of outdoor exercise. The hike takes about two hours. 


Holiday Hike

December 9: Annual Self-Guided Holiday Light Hike
5-8:30 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting) 

Don't miss this rare opportunity to explore the 1-mile Orchard Loop by candlelight and holiday lights! This is a self-guided activity, so feel free to begin your hike at any time, but please plan to return no later than 8:30 p.m. Be sure to drop by the Lake House before or after your hike for hot cocoa and s'mores with Ranger Noah. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp to get to and from the trail safely.


Squirrel

December 10: Hibernation Hike 
10 a.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting) 

Join Ranger Noah on this moderate-to-difficult 2-mile hike, and learn all about the small mammals that live in the area and how they prepare for the harsh Garrett County winter. Photo by Brian Clay.


Tree with Label

December 12: Tree Talk Tuesday 
3 p.m. at the Lake House (weather permitting) 

Join Ranger Noah and Student Intern Maddy on this moderate-to-difficult 2-mile hike, and learn about some of the 16 native trees that are labeled throughout the park. This will be the first in a series of tree talks, with each focusing on different tree species. 


Lake House

December 15: Movie Night - The Grinch
7-9 p.m. at the Lake House 

Enjoy this free showing of "The Grinch" (rated G). Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase at the Snack Bar, along with complimentary s’mores.


Ingredients

December 16: Make and Take Bird Feeders
2-4 p.m. at the Nature Center 

Drop by the Lake House and learn how to make your own suet cakes and other bird feeders. This is a come and go style program, so feel free to stop by anytime during the program time period.


Ornament Craft

December 17: Holiday Nature Hike and Craft
10 a.m. - noon at the Lake House

Join ranger Noah on this easy 1-mile hike and learn about New Germany’s native plants and animals. Afterwards, make some Christmas ornaments out of natural materials to take home with you.


Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and check for ticks.
