Property in Perryman Preserved Forever
In May 2023, the Crothers family permanently preserved 32-acres in the Harford County community of Perryman. The property contains 14 acres of tillable land as well as 16 acres of forest within the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area. The coastal plain property is near and drains into Cranberrry Run, a tributary of Church Creek, and is adjacent to the County owned Perryman Park.
Harford Land Trust and Maryland Environmental Trust were honored to work with the Crothers to preserve their beloved family property. This success was made possible with funding from the US Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground (through an initiative known as the Army Compatible Use Buffer Program or ACUB). Read more.

Partners Conserve Forest on the Crownsville Hospital Property
The Maryland Environmental Trust and Scenic Rivers Land Trust have permanently protected 158 acres of forested land located on the Crownsville Hospital property. Anne Arundel County granted a conservation easement, which eliminates development rights, on this portion of the 460 acre hospital site as a condition of the transfer of ownership from the State of Maryland to the county.
The conserved portion of the hospital property is almost entirely wooded. A network of over three miles of streams—tributaries of Bacon Ridge Branch and, in turn, the South River—run through the forest. The conserved area is classified as “Significant for Biodiversity Conservation” according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Biodiversity Conservation Network (BioNet) digital map system.
