Maryland the Beautiful Act Passes!
The Maryland the Beautiful Act (SB 470, HB 631) overwhelmingly passed in both chambers of the Maryland Legislature on April 10, 2023. Governor Moore will likely sign the bill in the next week or two. This is a significant bill that establishes the following high impact programs that MET will administer including the expansion of funding for MET's Keep Maryland Beautiful grants program, a new revolving loan fund program for land trusts, statewide land conservation goals and the 40 x 40 Land Conservation Implementation Grant Program.

DNR Riparian Buffer Care Calendar
Riparian forest buffers are considered the ‘last line of defense for our streams’ by trapping and transforming nutrients and sediments before they enter our waterways as harmful runoff. The Riparian Buffer Care Calendar provides guidelines for supporting early-stage development of recently planted riparian forest buffers (established less than 10 years). Learn more.

The 20th Annual DNR Photo Contest is Open!
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is pleased to announce the opening of the 2023 Maryland Natural Resource Photo Contest. Photographers are encouraged to submit photos of Maryland's natural resources through all four seasons. Entries may include images from anywhere in Maryland featuring birds, insects, flora, recreation, scenic landscapes, weather, and wildlife. This year's contest is open through August 1, 2023. Offshore Blind and Shoreline Licensing Applications Now Open
Waterfront, or riparian, property owners can now apply for offshore blind and shoreline licenses to establish sites for hunting waterfowl or prevent others from licensing their property. Applicants must submit paperwork and fees by mail, postmarked no later than May 31, 2023. Learn more.
