May 6: Foraging for Invasive Garlic Mustard 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Nature Center
You can make a mean pesto with garlic mustard! This invasive plant with the pungent odor needs yearly removal before it produces seeds and spreads even more. Join a volunteer ranger as we work to eradicate these easy-to-pull plants from the grounds and trails of the park. You may even choose to take some home to make your own pesto! Meet at the Nature Center at 11 a.m. Trash bags will be provided.

May 7: Meet the Reptiles 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Nature Center
Reptiles play a vital role in the ecology of our natural world. Learn more about this interesting group of animals and get the chance to see a live corn snake. Come see how corn snakes have adjusted to meet the challenges of their environment. This presentation is suitable for all ages.
May 7: Dazzling Dragonflies 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Nature Center
Visit the Nature Center to learn about the dazzling dragonflies that live in our park. See if you can spot any during your visit!

May 13: Formation of the Patuxent River Valley 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Nature Center
Patuxent River State Park occupies a valley eroded over time by natural forces. This has resulted in changes to the course of the river that continues today. Tours of the river near the Nature Center will be held at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
May 14: Take Your Mom for a Hike 10 a.m. at the Nature Center
Start Mother's Day off right with a hike along the Flowing Free trail. The hike will be about 3 miles and last about an hour. Please wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water. Meet at the parking lot near the Nature Center.

May 21: Early History of the Lower Patuxent River State Park 1-4 p.m. at the Nature Center
Learn about the Gaithers and successive families in the lower Patuxent River State Park. Join a discussion on the settlement of the Patuxent River Valley near the Nature Center.
May 28: Cemetery Hike 1 p.m. at the Nature Center
Join a volunteer ranger for a hike of the park's Cemetery (Red) trail. Learn about the agricultural and natural history of the park and a prominent formerly-enslaved landowner and his family. The hike will about about 3.5 miles round trip and visits the historic Howard Chapel Cemetery. There are two "step across" creek crossings and varied terrain. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of water. Meet at the Nature Center.

Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and remember to check for ticks.
