Southern Maryland Recreational Complex is accepting applications for a long-term contractual Park Technician I
The long-term contractual (LTC) Park Technician I is an intermediate-level position that will be responsible for monitoring and maintenance of grounds, facilities, and equipment at the park. Duties may include trail construction and maintenance, mowing, and trimming, removal of downed and hazardous trees, use of power tools and heavy equipment, re-routing of park trails, and boundary marking.
The LTC Park Technician may also lead or supervise work of seasonal employees and volunteers. While the maintenance of park buildings is the primary function of this position, the selected candidates will also assist with day-to-day park operations, including opening and closing park facilities, assisting with park visitor needs, and helping with special events as required.

Southern Maryland Recreational Complex is recruiting for several seasonal positions across Southern Maryland!
Salary for seasonal positions starts at $16.15/ hour. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.
The three areas of the Southern Maryland Recreational Complex are the East Area, which is based out of Merkle Natural Resources Management Area in Upper Marlboro; the North Area, which is based out of Cedarville State Forest in Brandywine; and the South Area, which is based out of Smallwood State Park in Marbury.

PARK RANGER North Area, South Area, and East Area
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory-level of work in the operation of a state park. Duties generally include, but are not limited to:
- Provide visitors with park information and regulations
- Monitor and cleaning of state buildings, bathhouses, campgrounds, and restrooms
- Use of a computer and point-of-sale system to register campers, complete reports, and sell park merchandise
- Respond to emergencies, including first aid and traffic direction
- May assist with the development and presentation of interpretive and environmental education programs

NATURALIST North Area and South Area
The Seasonal Naturalist develops and leads interpretive programming at a state park. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with volunteers and youth programs
- Develop and maintain exhibits, park bulletin boards, and educational materials
- Operation and maintenance of nature centers, buildings, and grounds
- May include live animal care, handling, enrichment activities, and programming associated with the Scales & Tales program
- Work with diverse user groups
MAINTENANCE WORKER North Area, South Area, and East Area
The Seasonal Maintenance Worker position is responsible for the maintenance of grounds, facilities, and equipment in a park or recreation area. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
- Clean restrooms, shelters, campsites, and other facilities
- Remove litter
- Mow and trim grass
- Painting, electric, carpentry, and plumbing work
- Use of hand tools and operation of power equipment

VISITOR SERVICE ATTENDANT South Area
The Visitor Service Attendant provides secretarial and financial duties for a state park. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
- Answer phones and greet visitors, provide information about park facilities, programs, and regulations within the park office, contact stations, stores, campground, and day-use areas
- Enter data using Excel spreadsheets and Google Suite programs
- Process bills for payment
- Perform sales via cash register and/or credit card terminal
- Use of a computer and point-of-sale system to register campers, complete reports, and sell park merchandise
CONTACT STATION/ CONCESSION ATTENDANT South Area
The Contact Station/ Concession Attendant position provides customer service for park visitors in contact stations and concessions buildings. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
- Use of a computer and point-of-sale system to register campers, complete reports, and sell park merchandise and passes for day use areas
- Provide visitors with park information and regulations within the park’s contact stations, stores, campground, and day use areas
- Answer telephones and a communications radio
- Handle money and provide change
- Maintain and clean the concessions and contact station buildings, as well as litter pick-up near facilities

CONCESSION MANAGER South Area
The Concession Manager manages food service and retail operation including preparation of hot and cold foods, merchandising of gift shop items, ordering and inventory maintenance, invoice reconciliation, cash handling, and supervision of staff. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
- Operate a cash register in the sale of park merchandise
- Maintain inventory of supplies, materials, and products
- Complete required reports
- Administer canoe and kayak rentals
- Oversee quality control of food service operation and cleanliness and safety of concessions operation

The Southern Maryland Recreation Complex staff manages Calvert Cliffs, Chapel Point, Chapman, Rosaryville and Smallwood state parks, Cedarville State Forest and the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and Visitor Center.
