April 9 and 16: Meet the Reptiles
11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Nature Center

Many reptiles play a vital role in the ecology of our natural world. This presentation will provide an opportunity to learn more about this interesting group of animals and will include the chance to see a live corn snake. Come see how corn snakes have adjusted to meet the challenges of their environment. This presentation is suitable for all ages.

April 15: Happy Friday Hike
4 p.m. at the Nature Center

Join a volunteer ranger to kick off State Park Week with a 3-mile-plus hike through the park. Meet at the Nature Center. Wear comfortable shoes and bring drinking water.

April 16: Bamboo Wind Chimes
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Turn an invasive plant into a work of art! We will use the invasive bamboo in the park to create a beautiful set of wind chimes that you can take home and enjoy.

April 17: Egg Hunt!
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Nature Center

Pick up a self-guided Egg Hunt sheet from the Nature Center and go on a short "Look and See" hike throughout the park to see if you can find the eggs of the birds that live in the park. When you're done, check back in at the Nature Center for a prize!

April 23: Vernal Pool Exploration
1 - 2 p.m. at the Nature Center

Come learn about vernal pools and see what could be living in one. We will take measurements and make observations to allow us to see how the pool changes over time. Wear your mud boots and dress appropriately for the weather.

Wavyleaf Basketgrass at Patuxent

April 30: Invasive Plant Removal
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Park Office

What’s the difference between native, introduced, and invasive species? And why should we care? Come learn about a few of the introduced and invasive species in Patuxent River State Park – then pull on your gloves and help remove the (spoiler alert) invasive garlic mustard from around the picnic area, parking lots, and trails. Bring water and your own gloves. Trash bags will be provided.

Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and remember to check for ticks.

Please email us or call 443-962-0216 for additional information or to register (recommended).
