43 Acres of Forest Near Emmorton Protected
Forty-three acres of forest at the southern end of Patterson Mill Road near Emmorton in Harford County are now permanently protected by a conservation easement donated by the Pitts family to Harford Land Trust and the Maryland Environmental Trust, jointly, in July of this year. Thanks to the generosity of Edward Pitts, 87, his wife, and children, the property will always be an oasis of preserved forest within the heart of Harford County’s Development Envelope. Read more.

The City of Cambridge was one of several recipients of the Keep Maryland Beautiful grant, receiving $3,000 in funding that will be used at the Empowerment Center (EC) for a revived landscape design. This grant was generously provided by Keep Maryland Beautiful, Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Environmental Trust, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, and Forever Maryland Foundation.
Richard Potter, EC’s new executive director, quotes: “We are very excited to be presented with the Keep Maryland Beautiful Grant. This opportunity will allow us to transform the outside appearance of the Empowerment Center, thus creating a more welcoming friendly environment for all.”

MET at the Maryland State Fair
Maryland Environmental Trust attended the Maryland State Fair on Tuesday, August 31. Staff from MET and the Maryland Department of Natural Resource's Land Acquisition and Planning unit shared an exhibit table in the Mosner Miller Building at the fairground, where they met with fair patrons stopping by to learn more about DNR's programs.

Scenic Rivers Executive Director speaks at Green Infrastructure Master Plan Event
Scenic Rivers Executive Director Sarah Knebel spoke at the Anne Arundel County Green Infrastructure Master Plan Announcement on Thursday, August 12. Her speech begins around 24:10 in this video of the announcement. “We need to conserve our forests, wetlands and farms right alongside our homes, ice cream shops and movie theaters. We need enough of both the natural and built environments to have truly thriving communities,” said Sarah Knebel, Executive Director of Scenic Rivers Land Trust. “I look forward to working with the County to review this plan and achieve its goals because the health of our communities depends upon it.” Anne Arundel County has a plan to conserve green spaces in every community. Explore the Gunpowder Watershed Challenge

This September, Gunpowder Valley Conservancy challenges you to discover the beauty of the Gunpowder Watershed of Baltimore County and register for GVC's 2021 Explore the Gunpowder Watershed Challenge.
The GVC is a Baltimore County-based land trust and watershed restoration non-profit organization. Since 1989, the GVC has protected 1850+ acres in conservation easements, planted 32,000+ trees and removed 260+ tons of trash throughout the watershed.
