Dear Maryland Canada goose hunter,

The population of Canada geese that breeds in northern Quebec and migrates south to winter in the Chesapeake and mid-Atlantic states is known as the Atlantic Population (AP). Although most Atlantic Flyway states have an overabundance of locally breeding Canada geese, the AP population has declined and as a result, more restrictive seasons have been implemented in the areas that harvest a significant number of these migratory geese (currently 30 days with a 1-bird bag limit).

At this time, biologists are seeking input from hunters on their preferences regarding these season limits. Please note that the results of this survey will have no bearing on the 2021-2022 goose hunting seasons, which are already set. Any potential changes will take effect in coming years (2022-2023 at the earliest). This survey is being distributed to a random sample of goose hunters in the Atlantic Flyway states that have a goose hunting zone for AP Canada geese.

This is a chance to voice your opinion from a Maryland hunter perspective. The results of this survey will assist us in developing hunting regulations for AP Canada geese that include hunter preferences as well as ensure the long-term conservation of the population. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
