Have you heard about the Maryland Mentored Hunt Program? This program, coordinated by the department, teaches first-time hunters and lapsed hunters a new set of skills, including hunting techniques or how to hunt specific species. Learn more on our website.

Enter the Arbor Day Poster Contest!

The Maryland Forest Service, in partnership with Maryland Forest Conservancy District Boards, is sponsoring a poster contest for fifth graders throughout Maryland.  Winners will receive a tree planting at their school.

Do you know a creative 5th grader?  Encourage them - and their classmates - to get artistic this winter! Kids can share their knowledge by creating a poster with this year's theme: "Trees are Terrific and Forest Products are too!

First Weekend Hikes are Coming Up!

Start the new year off on the right foot! Maryland State Parks will be offering self-guided hike opportunities across the state from January 1-3, 2021. Due to safety precautions, staff will not be leading the hikes this year; however, we are providing plenty of information and well-marked trails to get you started.

Our First Day Hikes website is being updated with more information about hikes near you. First Day Hike “I Hiked” Stickers will be available while supplies last! Please help us collect data! Fill out this quick form after your hike.

Think Spring! Trees Available for Spring Planting

Place your order for trees and shrubs today! The state tree nursery's online seedling catalog is now open and accepting orders for spring planting at nursery.dnr.maryland.gov.       

Trees benefit the environment and enhance natural habitat for wildlife. Almost all trees and shrubs available for sale are native, and many are also pollinator-friendly.
