So far this year, the Deep Creek Lake Launch Stewards have intercepted a record number of boats with attached zebra mussels and other aquatic invasive species present and attempting to launch onto Deep Creek Lake.

With the holiday weekend upon us, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources reminds guests and visitors to CLEAN, DRAIN and DRY their boats and gear before coming to Deep Creek Lake.

Together we can protect Deep Creek Lake from aquatic invasive species and maintain a healthy and vibrant lake for all to enjoy.

For more information on how best to properly CLEAN, DRAIN and DRY your boats and gear:

  • Watch a short video about how to ensure your boat and trailer are free of invasive species.
  • Read a brief brochure  detailing how to CLEAN, DRAIN and DRY boats and gear.
  • Learn more about aquatic invasive species on the Maryland invasive species webpage.

Maryland state law prohibits the introduction of aquatic invasive species into state waters and requires boats to be clean and free of any plant or animal aquatic invasive species before launching onto state waters.
