Public Input Sought for Three-Year State Lakes Fund Initiative

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will host an online information session from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to solicit public input regarding the development of a work plan for the second phase of the State Lakes Protection and Restoration Fund. The fund is providing $1 million annually for three years to protect and restore 16 state-owned lakes throughout Maryland.

The webinar will present materials that were available at four public open house events held in October. The department will report on projects underway in the initiative’s first year and accept input toward developing a budget for the best use of funds in coordination with local governments, organizations, and citizens.

The State Lakes Fund can be used for removing sediment, treating contaminated sediment, preventing the spread of invasive species, improving the ecological and recreational value, and any other actions necessary at any or all of 16 lakes throughout Maryland.

Attendees should register for this webinar using this online form. A hyperlink and/or call-in number to join the webinar will be sent to the email address provided in the registration form. Questions about this online info session and the State Lakes Fund can be addressed to Yishen Li at yishen.li@maryland.gov.
