December 7: Ninth Annual Traditional Village Christmas 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at at the Catoctin Furnace Village
Catoctin Furnace Historical Society hosts children’s activities including a visit from Belsnickel and costumed living history scenes. Enjoy mulled cider, homemade soup and traditional baked goods for purchase. Made-to-order wreaths and other decorative items for sale. December 14: Museums by Candlelight Noon - 5 p.m at Catoctin Furnace Historical Society, Collier’s Log House.
The Catoctin Furnace Historical Society welcomes visitors to the circa 1810 Collier’s Log House in the Village of Catoctin Furnace. Enjoy baked goods and free children’s activities. Design and purchase the perfect holiday wreath with fresh greenery, holly, pine cones, ribbon and bows, and all sorts of adornments. Volunteers will make the wreath while you wait. December 21: Invasive Plant Pull 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Falls Trailhead, Houck Area
Calling all Weed Warriors and willing hands to join the staff to pull/cut invasive plants along the park’s most well-traversed trail. January 1, 2020: First Day Hike! Self-guided Hike to Cunningham Falls from Lower Falls Trail Parking Lot,
This is a self-guided hike to Cunningham Falls, the largest cascading waterfall in Maryland. Visitors can choose between the Lower Falls Trail and the Cliff Trail. Dogs on a leash are welcome on both trails. Jogging strollers can access the Lower Falls Trail.
Choose a time and difficulty level that works for you! Lower Falls Trail: Easy, Cliff Trail: Moderate. Length of hike: 1 mile, round trip. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and warm clothing. Bring water.

January 1, 2020: First Day Hike! Old Misery Guided Hike 1 p.m. at Dam Overlook Parking Lot
Start the New Year with some strenuous activity! Difficult hike. Length: 3 miles, round trip. RSVP required as space is limited: 301-271-7574 by December 31.
Wear sturdy closed-toe boots, warm clothing, water, snacks, boot ice grips, and hiking poles. Hike with a ranger along the Old Misery Trail to beautiful Cat Rock. This challenging hike will begin at the Dam Overlook Parking Lot, located just north of the park's Administration Office. This hike is weather-dependent, participants will be notified about cancellation via phone by December 31. Dogs on a leash are welcome. No restrooms on site.

January 1, 2020: First Day Hike! Gambrill Overlook Guided Sunset Hike 4:15 p.m. at High Knob Area
Degree of Difficulty: Easy. Length of Hike: Approximately 2 miles, round trip. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and warm clothing and bring water and a flashlight. No RSVP or pre-registration required. Call 301-712-6964 by December 31 for additional info. Hike with a ranger to all three of Gambrill's overlooks and enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Middletown Valley. Dogs on a leash are welcome. This is a family-friendly hike, but is not stroller accessible. No restrooms on site.

Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and check for ticks.
