June 1 & 8: Free Fishing Days!
All day at Hunting Creek Lake, Houck Area

Maryland License-Free Fishing Day! No fishing license or trout stamps are required to fish (all other state fishing regulations still apply). So grab a fishing pole, bring a buddy, come down to the lake and give this great sport a try!

June 1: National Trails Day 
10 a.m. at Falls Trailhead, Houck Area

Celebrate National Trails Day by assisting our crew with maintenance along the Falls trail. Please bring water, sturdy, closed-toe shoes and a snack. Tools and work gloves are provided.

June 1: History Hike
11 a.m. at Manor Area Visitor Center

Enjoy the great outdoors and scenery of the Catoctin Furnace Trail, while learning about the past of the historic furnace and surrounding areas.

June 1: Build-a-Nest!
3:30 p.m. at Manor Area Visitor Center

We'll learn how our feathered friends build nests for their young, then build our own craft nests.

8 p.m. at Houck Ampitheatre, Houck Area

Enjoy a cozy campfire while learning about our native Maryland wildlife. You never know what animals will stop by from our Scales & Tales program!

June 2, 6, 16, 23: Guided Hike to the Falls 
10 a.m. at Falls Trailhead, Houck Area

Enjoy a leisurely hike to the majestic Cunningham Falls with park staff to guide the way. Learn about cool creatures, geological features and peculiar plants during the hike!

June 7, 14, 28: Creatures of the Night Hike
8 p.m. at Campground Trailhead, Houck Area

Join us for a night hike and learn about the critters who come out after dark! Sturdy, closed-toe shoes, a flashlight and a drink are recommended.

12-3 p.m. at Sugar Shack near South Beach Bath. Houck Area

Try your hand at tie-dying with some friends and bring home a unique souvenir! We provide the Cunningham Falls State Park t-shirt! The cost is $10 per participant.

June 15: Meet a Snake!
4-5 p.m. at Manor Area Visitor Center

Snakes are an important part of our state's ecosystem! Stop by our nature center to meet a snake up close.

June 19: Furnace Hike!
4 p.m. at Catoctin Furnace 

Join a ranger on a guided hike! Meet at the Furnace to hike over to the Manor Area Playground. This easy hike is perfect for all ages and features scenic views and lots of history!

June 21: School's Out Solstice Celebrations!
9 p.m. at Falls Trailhead, Houck Area

Drag out the longest day of the year and get out for a night hike to Cunningham Falls! Kick off your summer with an uncommon adventure to discover the park after dark. Bring water and a flashlight and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.

June 22: Weed Warriors Attack!
9 a.m. at Falls Trailhead, Houck Area

Join forces with a park naturalist and wage war on  invasive plants! Hike to the falls and learn about these  pesky plants while we remove them to make room for our noteworthy natives! Please bring water and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Tools and work gloves are provided.

June 22: Great American Campout Jamboree
1 p.m. at Manor Area Playground

Join in for camping stories, family camping games, music and a special guest to celebrate the joy of camping in any setting!

June 29: Birds of a Feather!
3:30 p.m. at Manor Area Visitor Center

Ever wonder what makes a feather so special? Come  explore and learn about many types of feathers in the bird world, including a visit from our resident barn owl, Casper!

June 30: Misery Trail Advanced Hike
10 a.m. at Dam Parking Lot

Join a naturalist on a guided hike on one of the best trails in the park! Strenuous but enchanting, this trail-less-traveled offers rare views of popular park features that will inspire you to come back for more!

 June 1: National Trails Day
 9 a.m. at 8602 Gambrill Park Road, Gambrill Shop

Please join us as we build a one-tenth of a mile trail on  the east side of Gambrill Park RoadIf you are interested in getting a good workout and learning some trail-building skills, meet at the Gambrill Shop at 9 a.m. Call 301-293-4170 for more information or to register.

  June 19: Tea Room Open House
 4-7 p.m. at Tea Room, High Knob Area

Planning a family reunion, wedding or anniversary party? Stop by Gambrill State Park's Tea Room to see if it will work for you! A park ranger will be onsite to answer questions as you take your tour. Bring a camera and take a hike while you're here!


Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and check for ticks.

$75 for Marylanders; $100 for out-of-state visitors

Our annual State Parks and Trails Passport grants unlimited day-use admission and boat launching at state parks, and a 10 percent discount on state-operated concessions and boat rentals.
