March 2: First Sunday Juniors/Seniors Stroll 10:30 a.m. at Boat Center
Enjoy a guided, easy-paced walk on natural surface trails, looking for all kinds of natural things. This hike is designed for slower movers, from young children to great-grandparents. Binoculars recommended.

A fun, 30-45 minute program for all ages. Meet a living snake or turtle and examine shells and skins from reptiles living in the park!

Check out Seneca’s resident snake at the park office. Learn some quick facts about reptiles of Maryland and watch the live corn snake eat its meal!

March 7, 14, 28: Weekday Hike 1:15 p.m. at Park Office
Get some fresh air and exercise in the middle of the day. We will hike a loop of between 1.5 and 2 miles, with frequent stops for plant and animal sightings and praying mantis egg case searches. Route varies with trail conditions, and will occasionally stay on pavement after heavy snow/rain.
March 9: Seneca Stonecutting Cemetery Hike 1 p.m. at River Road (past Seneca Schoolhouse is 0.3 miles west of the intersection with Partnership Road)
Come for a bushwhacking, history-seeking hike to find the final resting place of 100 or more of the quarry workers who mined the sandstone that was used to build the Smithsonian Castle. There is NO TRAIL to the cemetery. We will be crossing farm fields and woods. Round trip hike will be about 4 miles.
March 10: Lake Frank Eagle Nest Loop Hike 1 p.m. at Meadowside Nature Center, 5100 Meadowside Lane, Rockville
This Montgomery County Park is the home of a bald eagle nest. Join us for a 4.5-mile hike around Lake Frank while we look for the nest, eagles and spring migrants. Bring binoculars and water. Waterproof footwear recommended.
March 16: Nature Observation Hike 1 p.m. at Boat Center
Enjoy a guided afternoon hike through the park while observing the amazing natural finds Seneca has to offer. A great opportunity to see and learn about nature.
March 17: Animal Tracks Program 3 p.m. at the Park Office
Ever wondered which animals you might find at the park? Learn how to identify various animal tracks made by the wildlife species that call Seneca home.
March 21: Moonlight Beaver Hike 7:30 p.m. at Park Office (RSVP required)
Join a volunteer ranger for an after-hours hike during the full moon. We will meet at the park office and hike to the lake to see the moon rising over the water. With a bit of luck, we will catch sight of one of our beavers and maybe some other creatures too! Dress for the cooler night temperatures and bring a flashlight. March 23: Beautiful Bluebirds 1 p.m. at Park Office
Meet in the Woodlands Room in the park office for a 45-minute presentation about eastern bluebirds. Learn why they need our help and how you can attract them to your yard. Following the indoor program we will hike to a nest box in the park that (we hope) will have eggs or baby birds. Walk to bluebird nest boxes may be cancelled in case of inclement weather.
March 30: Historic Cabin Open House 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Park Office
Visit our 164-year-old log farmhouse and try your hand at an old time craft! Get the opportunity to step inside and see what's inside! Fun and interesting for all ages.
March 30: Backyard Habitat talk 1 p.m. at Park Office
Do you love gardening and nature? Would you like to encourage and support bees, pollinators, beneficial organism, birds, frogs, bats and/or other local wildlife? The Soulful Gardener (Heather Zindash) will show you how to add food, shelter, water and nesting sites to create your very own backyard habitat. Backyard habitats help us connect with nature while also providing important eco-services that benefit our entire community. Come and enjoy Heather’s lively presentation which includes beautiful photos and videos from her own local, Certified Wildlife Habitat. $5 per person suggested donation to Friends of Seneca Creek State Park.
March 31: Clopper Mill Trash Bash with Izaak Walton League 9 a.m. to noon (plus lunch) at 12087 Clopper Rd. Gaithersburg
Join us at our third annual trash cleanup of the Clopper Mill ruins with our neighbors, the Izaak Walton League Rockville Chapter. We will meet at the Izaak Walton League’s lake parking area and walk under Clopper Road to get to the mill ruins. Trash bags will be provided. Please wear heavy duty hiking clothes, sturdy shoes and gardening gloves. Stay for a cookout lunch graciously offered by the Izaak Walton League after the cleanup.
Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Dress
for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring
plenty of water and snacks, and remember to check for ticks.
