Jan. 1: First Day Hike
10 a.m. at Nuthatch Pavilion

Join us for a 2-mile hike starting on the Mink Hollow Trail crossing onto a portion of the Lakeshore Trail and finishing up on the Long Draught Trail. Dogs on leash are welcome. Participants are welcome to gather around the campfire and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa after. Please bring a reusable thermos or mug if you have one. 


Jan. 4, 11, 25: TGIF Hike
1:15 p.m. at the park office

Join a Volunteer Ranger for an afternoon hike! This 1.2-mile walk is perfect to stretch your legs or just get outside for an hour. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.


Jan. 5: National Bird Day Beginner Birding
10 a.m. at Kingfisher Overlook

Ever wondered what bird watching is all about? See a bird you like, but just don’t know what it is? Come out to Clopper Lake and search for migrating birds and learn some birding basics. Bring binoculars if you have them.


Jan. 5: All About Beavers
1:30 p.m. in the Woodlands Room at the park office

Are you curious about the secret life of one of Maryland’s best engineers? Join us for a short presentation to learn some beaver basics, followed by an optional hike departing from Kingfisher Overlook to check out some activity right here on Clopper Lake.


Jan. 6: Juniors/Seniors Stroll
10:30 a.m. at Kingfisher Overlook

Enjoy strolling through the great outdoors on a guided slow-paced walk through the park. Admire nature, catch glimpses of wildlife and learn some natural history


Jan. 6, 13, 20, & 27: Nature Crafts
1 p.m. at the park office

Fun crafts, games and hands-on nature items. Activities vary each week!


Jan. 6, 13, 20, & 27: Reptile Encounter
2 p.m. at park office

Come to the park for a fun, 30-45 minute program for all ages. Meet a living snake or turtle and examine shells and skins from reptiles living in the park!


Jan. 7, 14, 21, & 28: Reptile Feeding
11 a.m. at park office

Check out Seneca’s resident snake. Learn some quick facts about reptiles and watch the live corn snake eat its meal!


Jan. 8, 15, 22, & 29: Nature Nook
11 a.m. -1 p.m. at park office

Fun crafts, games and hands-on nature items. Activities vary each week!


Jan. 13, 20, & 27 Sunday Morning Hike
10:15 a.m. at Kingfisher Overlook

This hike is about getting outside and active. Nature is a fascinating hike.


Jan. 15: Hat Day Hike
2 p.m. at parking lot on Riffle Ford Road

Get outside to celebrate National Hat Day. Wear your silliest hats on this brief hike around the yellow loop. Dogs on leash are welcome.


Jan. 19: Seneca Creek Greenway Trail Hike
9:30 a.m. at Berryville Road trailhead between Rt. 28 & Rt. 112

Join the final Seneca Greenway Hike to the Potomac River! We will trekking a 4.4-mile round trip to the C&O Canal, passing by Poole's Store, the Seneca Stonecutting Mill and canal boat turning basin.


Jan. 26: Grusendorf Open House
1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at park office

Visit a historic cabin and get the chance to try making butter the old –fashioned way while learning about wild milk and dairy cows.


Jan. 31: Beginner Hooping
2 p.m. at the park office

Get a great work out in while learning a fun new way to exercise. Hula hooping provides a productive aerobic activity to help shed winter weight. This lesson will focus on basic waist hula hooping and strengthening coordination. All skill levels welcome. Limited hoops will be available to borrow.


Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and remember to check for ticks.
