Dec. 2, 9, 16: Nature Crafts
1-2 p.m. at Park Office

Explore various topics about our natural world and take home a nature creation of your own! Crafts vary each week.


Dec. 2, 9, 16: Reptile Encounter
2 p.m. at Park Office

Spend 30-45 minutes meeting a living snake and examine shells and skins from reptiles living in the park!


Dec. 3, 10, 17: Reptile Feeding
11 a.m. at Park Office

Learn some quick facts about reptiles and check out our resident corn snake eat its meal!


Dec. 4, 11, 18: Nature Nook
11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Park Office

Fun crafts, games and hands-on nature items. Activities vary each week.


Dec. 6, 20, 27: Weekday Hike
2 p.m. at Park Office

Join a volunteer ranger for an afternoon hike! This 1.2-mile walk is perfect to stretch your legs or just get outside for an hour.


Dec. 9: Holiday Green Decor Workshop
2 p.m. at Park Office

Why spend money on expensive holiday décor when you can create your own? We will supply cut pine boughs, pine cones and other natural elements, plus some florist foam. Bring your own container and any accessories you'd like to make a unique centerpiece for your table. Gardening gloves recommended. Please bring your own garden clippers if you have them. Suggested $5 per person donation to the Friends of Seneca Creek State Park. RSVP required.


Dec. 15: Holiday Cookie Decorating
2-4 p.m. at Park Office

We bake, you decorate! Cookies, frosting, sprinkles, etc. provided. Create your own masterpiece in sugar to take home, or eat here. Suggested $5 per family donation to the Friends of Seneca Creek State Park.


Dec. 16: Black Rock Mill Heritage Hike 
1 p.m. at 16500 Black Rock Road, Germantown

Join Ranger Erik to explore the ruins of Black Rock Mill, one of the county’s few remaining water-powered mills. Learn why Maryland was briefly considered the “grain belt” of the nation.


Dec. 22: Seneca Creek Greenway Trail Hike
9 a.m. at Berryville Road Trail Head between Rt. 28 & Rt. 112 (Lower Lot)

Holiday craziness getting to you? Join a ranger for a 4.4-mile round trip hike!


Dec. 23: Bird Seed Ornament Craft
1 p.m. at Park Office

Have fun with this natural craft and help birds enjoy a winter snack by making a bird seed ornament to hang outside.


Dec. 29: Grusendorf Open House
10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Park Office

Visit a historic cabin and try making butter the old-fashioned way, while learning about wild milk and dairy cows.


Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and remember to check for ticks.
