Events are free unless otherwise noted; donations always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Reminders: Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellant, bring plenty of water and snacks, and remember to check for ticks.

 Aug. 24: Wilderness Wayfinding 3 p.m. at the Nature Center (Shine only)
During this interactive program, you will learn how to navigate the old-fashioned way - without GPS. After some basic instructions, you will have a chance to test your skills and search for a prize. Compasses available, but limited.

 Aug. 25: Appalachian Campfire Cooking 7 p.m. outside the Lake House
Join a ranger at the amphitheater outside the Lake House and learn the basics of Dutch oven cooking. The program will take place inside the Lake House if it rains.

 Aug. 31: Old-Time Jam 6:30-9 p.m. at the Lake House
Musicians and listeners of all ages are invited to share and enjoy traditional “old-timey” music. Snacks and gifts will be available for purchase.

 Sept. 1: Crosscut Saw Competition 1 p.m. outside the Lake House (Shine only)
Put your lumberjack skills to the test during a friendly two-person cross-cut saw competition. Families will have the opportunity to learn about some of the early tools and tricks that the Civilian Conservation Corps used to construct log cabins and other structures.

 Sept. 1: The Art of Blacksmithing 6 p.m. outside the Lake House (Shine only)
Local metal sculptor and blacksmith, Kenny Braitman, will conduct hands-on demonstrations and instruction on the unique art of sculpting metal.

 Sept. 2: Sunday Stroll 2 p.m. at the Lake House (Shine only)
Join a ranger on this 2-mile hike and learn about some plants and animals along the way.
