Garrett Trails Work Day 2017

Garrett Trails and the Friends of New Germany State Park will be hosting a trail work day 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 16. Volunteers should meet in the Poplar Lick Trail parking area located about 1.4 miles south of the park entrance along New Germany Road (between Fairview Lane and Otto Lane).

Work will involve the use of shovels and other hand tools to help improve drainage along the Dynamite Shack Loop. Light trail maintenance tasks such as clearing fallen limbs will also be available for volunteers who may not be able to help with the drainage project.

Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy footwear, and bring your own water, snacks, bug spray and gloves to enjoy a day of camaraderie on the trails. High school students interested in earning Community Service Learning hours should bring the proper forms.

For more information, please call 301-895-5453 or email

The Friends of New Germany is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers who care about the park, and want to enhance, maintain and support it through fundraising and a variety of projects. To learn more about other Garrett Trail projects and volunteer opportunities, please visit them online or call 301-387-3013.
