JUNE PROGRAM CALENDAR
Events are fun for all ages and will be held rain or shine unless otherwise noted. A few reminders: dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellant, bring plenty of water and snacks, and remember to check for ticks.
Park entrance fees may apply on weekends and holidays. $3 per person for residents/$5 per person for nonresidents.

Sundays: Nature Crafts 1 p.m. at the Nature Shack by the
Tire Playground
Spend some time in the
great outdoors learning about our natural world. Meet a volunteer ranger to
take home a nature creation of your own! Crafts vary each week.
Sundays: Reptile Encounter 2 p.m. at the
Nature Shack by the Tire Playground
Come
to the park for a fun, 30-45 minute program for all ages. You'll meet a living snake, and examine shells and skins from reptiles living in the park.
Mondays: Reptile Feeding 11 a.m. at the Park Office
Check out our resident
snake, learn some quick facts about reptiles and
watch the live corn snake eat its meal!
Tuesdays: Nature Shack 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Nature Shack by the Tire Playground
Join a volunteer ranger and take the family to the park for fun crafts, games and hands-on nature items. Activities vary each week.
Thursdays: Week Night Hike 6:15 p.m. at the Park Office (Shine only)
Join a volunteer ranger for an evening hike. This 1.2-mile walk is perfect to stretch your legs or to just get outside for an hour.
Saturdays & Sundays: Pontoon Tour 2 & 4 p.m. at the Boat Center
Take a relaxing 45-minute evening boat ride on our pontoon boat, the Blue Heron. Learn about the history of the area and search for wildlife who call Clopper Lake home. $2/person in addition to park entrance fees.

June 1: Peony Talk 1 p.m. at the Peony Garden
Join our naturalist for a brief 10-15 minute talk about the
history of the garden and learn how to cultivate your own peonies.
June 2 & 9: Maryland Free
Fishing Days 8:30 a.m. at the Boat Center (Shine only)
Join an expert angler in a beginner’s course
in fishing. The
park supplies rods and reels, or you may bring your own.
Please note: Aside from these days, persons 16 years and older are required to have a Maryland nontidal fishing license. Licenses are not sold at the park. You may purchase them online, at a regional service center or retail store, or by calling 855-855-3906.
June 3: Seneca Creek Stream Study 3 p.m. at the Park Office
We will take
measurements and make observations to allow us to see how the river changes
over time and what makes a waterway healthy. Wear mud boots.
June 6: Invasive ID Walk 2 p.m. at the Park Office
Discover which plants are beneficial to native wildlife and how to identify plants that are considered invasive.
Bring a plant identification guide
if you have one.
June 8 & 29: Leave No Trace Campfire Program 7:15 p.m. at the Park Office
Learn basic campfire building, proper extinguishing and Leave No Trace ethics. And yes, there will be s’mores!
June 13: Wetlands Walk 6 p.m. at Blue Jay/Nuthatch Parking Lot
Join a ranger on a nearby hike through the
marsh wetlands in search of different wetland creatures and observe the sounds of springtime toads and frogs.
June 15: Film Night - Beautiful Swimmers 7 p.m. at the Park Office
Spend your Friday evening at our monthly movie
night series and watch an award winning film focused on Maryland’s largest
watershed, Chesapeake Bay. Popcorn provided.
June 16: Recycling Craft 11 a.m. at Nature Shack
Come and make a fun take-home craft out of everyday materials and learn about the importance of recycling.
June 22: Caterpillar Craft 3 p.m. at the Nature Shack
Make a
fun caterpillar craft while learning more about the life cycle of these interesting
critters.
June 23: Pollinator
Spotlight - Hummingbirds Noon at the Nature Shack
A naturalist will discuss one of Maryland’s common pollinators, the
hummingbird. Learn the best methods to attract them to your own backyard!
June 24: Heritage Days Historical Cabin Open House | Noon-4 p.m. at the Park Office Have
you ever seen the log cabin next to office? Explore its
history, as well as the Clopper family, historical residents of the area. Bring
the family and try an old-time craft!
Guided Paddle | 3 p.m. at the Boat Center Join us on Clopper Lake and learn about the natural history of the area.
June 27: Seneca Creek Greenway Trail Hike 6-8:30 p.m. at the parking
lot on northbound side of Rt. 355
Join a volunteer ranger on a 4.6-mile hike on the Seneca Creek Greenway Trail.
June 28: Full Moon Paddle 7:30 p.m. at the Boat Center
Join staff for an evening kayaking paddle on Clopper Lake and observe the full moon from the water. $5/person in addition to park entrance fees.
June 30: Summer Scavenger Hunt 11:30 a.m. at the Nature Shack
Join our naturalist in search of natural elements and summertime objects.
