Events are free unless otherwise noted; donations always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Old Time Jam 2018

June 1: Old-Time Jam
6:30-9 p.m. at the Lake House (Rain or shine)

Musicians and listeners of all ages are invited to share and enjoy traditional “old-timey” music. Snacks and gifts will be available for purchase.


Katie's 5K 2017

June 2: Katie's 5K Race
9-11:30 a.m. at the Lake House (Rain or shine)

The race is held annually on National Trails Day in memory of Katie DeRosa, a local teen who was tragically killed by a vehicle while training for cross-country. Katie was an organ donor who gave renewed life to five people.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Proceeds will sponsor two college scholarships in Katie’s memory. Registration forms are available here. 


Fishing at New Germany

June 3 and 10: FREE Fishing Days!
All day at New Germany Lake (Rain or shine)

The first two Saturdays in June and July 4 are license-free fishing days across Maryland! On these days, licenses are not required to catch and possess finfish in tidal and non-tidal waters for recreational purposes. All other fishing laws and regulations still apply.

June 5: HIIT Fitness Class
5:30-6:15 p.m. at Mountain Top Pavilion at Dans Mountain State Park (Rain or shine)

Change up your workouts with this 45-minute high intensity interval training course instructed by Western Maryland Health System's Carey Moffatt. Carey is an educator, health coach and personal trainer. All fitness levels are encouraged to participate as each move can be adjusted to individual needs.


Weed or Wildflower

June 8: Weed or Wildflower
9-10:30 a.m. at the Native Plant Garden (Shine only)

Bring your work gloves, kneeling pads, weeding tools and some elbow grease to help remove unwanted plants from our native garden.

Please come prepared with your own insect spray, sunscreen and plenty of water.

June 8: Campfire Fun
7:30 p.m. at the Nature Center (Rain or shine)

Join our naturalist around the campfire to learn some tips and tricks for how to build the perfect fire and make some tasty treats. If it rains, we'll move to the Lake House.


Ocean to Ocean Speedway

June 9: Casselman River Bridge Tour
1 p.m. on Casselman River Bridge (Rain or shine)

Ranger Brian White will lead an informal 30-minute walking tour and history talk on the bridge.


Kids in Nature

June 9: Exploring the Language of Nature
4 p.m. at the Lake House (Shine only)

On this 45-minute walk, volunteer naturalist Jack Slocomb will guide you through a discovery process designed to create a deep sense of connection with natureThis activity is suited for ages 5 and up.


New Germany staff also manages Big Run, Casselman River Bridge and Dans Mountain state parks.
