Every Wednesday: Hump Day Hike 12:15 p.m. at the Park Office (Shine only)
Join a volunteer ranger to get out of the office and take a hike! This
1.2-mile walk is perfect to stretch your legs during a lunch break or just get
outside for an hour. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
March 4, 18, 25: Nature Crafts 1 p.m. at the Park Office (Shine only)
Spend some time in warmer air learning about our natural world with a volunteer ranger and take home a nature creation of your own! Crafts vary each week.
March 4, 18, 25: Reptile Encounter 2 p.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Come to the
park for a fun, 30-45 minute program featuring a live snake, and
examine shells and skins from reptiles living in the park.
March 6, 13, 20: Nature Nook 11 a.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Take the family to the park for fun crafts, games and hands-on nature
items. Activities vary each week.
March 10: Birdwatching Walk 9 a.m. at the Park
Office (Shine only)
Join staff on a short walk as we search for
spring migrants. Bring binoculars and a bird guide if you have them.
March 11: Foldscopes Craft 2 p.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Come spend an afternoon
folding your very own Foldscope. We have 15 kits. Families may share a kit
and work together. Advanced registration required. Appropriate for ages 8 and up.
Foldscope is an affordable, paper-based microscope that you build yourself. It is designed to be affordable, durable and provides optical quality similar to conventional research microscopes. With magnification of 140x and resolution of two microns, Foldscope brings microscopy to new places.
March 16: Wetland Walk 4 p.m. at the Park Office (Shine only)
Join a ranger on a hike through the marsh in search of
different wetland creatures. We hope to hear early springtime frogs and toads.
March 22: Wildflower Walk 2 p.m. at the Park
Office (Shine only)
Take in the beauty of spring with an afternoon
wildflower walk. Bring your identification guide (not required) to learn how to
look for Seneca’s common flowers. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for
the weather.
March 23: Movie Night - Green Fire 7 p.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Spend your Friday evening watching the film Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our
Time followed by a brief discussion. Light refreshments will be served.
March 24: Spring Equinox
Scavenger Hunt 2 p.m. at the Tire Playground (Shine only)
Join a ranger on a search for different natural elements and signs of springtime.
Stick around for a fun, spring-themed craft to follow.
March 24: Cookie Decorating 3-5 p.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
We bake, you decorate! Add candy eggs or rabbits, colorful frosting and sprinkles to create your own fancy cookies to eat or take
home. Please call or email ahead to reserve your spot. We will also have a limited supply of mini gingerbread houses. Suggested $5
donation to the Friends of Seneca Creek State Park.
March 28: Yoga in the Park 5 p.m. at the Park Office (Rain or shine)
Join staff for an hour of yoga. Bring a
towel, mat and water. All skill levels are welcome.
March 31: Historical Cabin Open House 1-3 p.m. at the
Park Office (Rain or shine)
Drop by
for a peek inside the historic log cabin. Learn about its original location, why it was moved and how people lived in primitive
homes in the past. Try your hand at making an old-time craft to take home.
